Officials are looking for the cause of a fire that destroyed an outbuilding and ignited nearby fuel tanks in rural Linn County.


At about 6:30pm Thursday (July 1), emergency workers from the Linn County Sheriff, along with fire departments from four area communities, were called to a structure fire at 4908 Sutton Road, northwest of Central City. Fire fighters arrived to find a machine shed and fuel tanks had caught fire.

The blaze originated when a tractor inside the shed ignited, and the fire spread. The farm building became fully engulfed, and was totaled.

There were no people or animals injured from the blaze.

The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The Linn County Sheriff, along with fire departments from Central City, Alburnett, Coggon, and Prairieburg were summoned to the burning machine shed.

The owners name was not released.
