We've lost a legend. Hayden Fry. The man who made Iowa football relevant again. The man who, when he announced his retirement from the University of Iowa, said, "I'll always be a Hawk." He cried that day and we all did too. Hayden Fry passed away Tuesday at the age of 90.

A release from the University of Iowa Sports Information Department includes a quote from the Fry Family that says, in part,

With our family at his side, Hayden Fry, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away following a lengthy battle with cancer.

In his last 18 years as the head Hawk, Hayden led Iowa to winning seasons 13 times. That equaled the number of winning seasons the program had from 1933 to his arrival for the 1979 season.

Hayden Fry was 143–89–6 at Iowa, and 96–61–5 in the Big Ten. Iowa captured the Big 10 title three times during his tenure.

Hayden Fry became a member of the College Football Hall of Fame in 2003.
