Dense fog apparently impaired a driver's vision so much, that she missed a stop sign and drove into a Winneshiek County creek.

The accident happened Saturday (Jan. 21) shortly after 2:30pm, at the "T" intersection of County Roads B16 and V64, just east of Protivin.

The driver, 20 year old Tiffany Franzen of Fort Atkinson, was driving north on 64, when she ran a stop sign because of reduced visibility created by heavy fog.

Franzen attempted to stop, but her car slid on the snow and slush covered road, and went into a small creek.

The car was submerged up to it's windows, but Franzen and the other occupants were able to get out of the car from the driver's side door, unharmed.

Her 2001 Ford Focus had $3,500 in damage.

The accident was investigated by the Winneshiek County Sheriff.
