Heavy rain dominates the forecast for today (Sept. 7, 2016) in north east Iowa, and that has prompted the National Weather Service is Des Moines to issue a Flash Flood Watch for the area.

The NWS of Des Moines in a release stated that thunderstorms capable of producing heavy rain will to continue across the state including northern Iowa. These storms will become more widespread later today into the evening.

The most intense rainfall rates are projected to dump one two three inches per hour. Rainfall totals of over two to four inches can be expected by this afternoon. Some areas may see even high amounts.

The Flash Flood Watch is now in effect until 10:00 PM tonight for all of north east Iowa, with the exception of Allamakee & Winnesiek Counties who are still under a Flood Warning.

The storm rolling through the Hawkeye state could drop rain at a rate of one to three inches per hour, and that may cause flash flooding. Roads may become covered with water, and fast rises on local creeks and streams will be possible.
