Five area people have been arrested for stealing puppies from a nature center in Fayette County.


Last Wednesday, August 7th, the ranger at the Gilbertson Nature Center in Elgin called authorities when they found that the petting zoo had been broken into, and 2 puppies were stolen.

After a 2 day investigation, the Fayette County Sheriff recovered both puppies, unharmed, returning them to the nature center.

On Monday (yesterday, Aug. 12), charges were filed on five people: 31 year old Michelle Teel of Hawkeye, 18 year old James Degreif of Wadena, and 3 juveniles from Hawkeye. They are being charged with Burglary in the 3rd Degree. The three minors were referred to Juvenile Court Services.

Sheriff Marty Fisher notes that the investigation was aided by tips from citizens in the community.
