The cause of an overnight house fire in Charles City is under investigation.

The homeowner was able to call 911 to report the blaze at about 9:30pm Wednesday (April 15), at his residence on Kelly Street. Responding Charles City Firefighters found smoke pouring from the home, and flames in a second story room.

No one was inside the structure when fire crews arrived. They were able to extinguish the blaze in about 15 minutes.

A firefighter, who was not identified, sustained a minor injury, but refused treatment. No one else was hurt.

There was major fire and smoke damage to the one room, as well as it's contents.
The property is apparently owned by Michael Vanderlice. An estimate on the damages was not available.

The origin of the fire is being investigated by the Iowa State Fire Marshall.

The Charles City Fire Department was assisted by Charles City Police, Floyd County Communications, Floyd County Search and Rescue, Floyd County Emergency Management, along with mutual aid standby help from the Colwell Fire Department and Floyd Fire Department.
