Authorities in Decorah are looking for the cause of a fire that closed the downtown area for several hours yesterday afternoon.


Just after 1pm Wednesday (April 25), the Decorah Fire Department was called to a structure fire in downtown Decorah, at 122 East Water Street, near West Music.

An upstairs apartment was engulfed. Firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control.

According to the Decorah Fire Department, the fire had also spread to an attic in the adjacent West Music building. Fire crews were able to contain the blaze to the attic, and it did not spread down into the business portion of the building. There was no indication if there was any smoke or water damage to the business.

No one was injured. Fire fighters were at the scene for approximately 3 hours.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
