Fayette County Sheriff Busy with Calls on New Years
The Fayette County Sheriff's Office had a busy New Year's holiday weekend, with several arrests and a couple of accidents. At about 10:30pm on Sunday (Jan. 1,) a deputy stopped a car for speeding, on Highway 3, west of the Starmont school. The driver, a 17 year old girl from Delhi, was cited in juvenile court for possession of alcohol under the legal age.
Shortly after 2am Sunday, a deputy stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. The driver, 23 year old Richard Ott of New Hampton, was arrested for OWI 1st Offense and operating a non-registered vehicle.
At around 11:30pm on Saturday (Dec. 31) the Fayette County sheriff got a report of a vehicle in the ditch in the 5,000 block of Neon Road, near Oelwein. Authorities found a pickup in the ditch. The driver, 40 year old Thomas Anderson of Oelwein, was cited for failure to maintain control and no insurance. 35 year old Jennifer Anderson was charged with filing a false report.
Just before 2:30am Saturday, a deputy stopped a vehicle on Stone Street in Clermont for a violation. The driver, 22 year old Will Schott of Clermont, was arrested for OWI 1st Offense, carrying weapons, driving while his license is revoked, open container, no registration or insurance, careless driving, and putting debri on the highway.
At 10pm Friday, the sheriff got a 911 call, reporting a domestic disturbance in Waucoma. 21 year old Kyle Alissa Guess of Waucoma was arrested for 2 counts of domestic abuse assault, and assault.
Shortly after midnight Friday, authorities received a report of a vehicle in the ditch on Highway 18 and Garden Road, west of Clermont. The vehicle apparently went out of control, crossed the road, entered a ditch, and struck an embankment. The car was totaled. The driver had fled the scene before deputies arrived. The incident is still under investigation.
And just before 9am Monday (Jan. 2), there was a disturbance in Arlington. 57 year old James Yearous of Arlington was arrested for domestic abuse assault.
