The Fayette County Sheriff reports several recent traffic accidents in the area.


Just before 8am Thursday (May 17), officers responded to a call of a vehicle in the ditch at Scenic Road and Upper Road, just outside of Waucoma. 48 year old Carrie Drilling of Waucoma had swerved to miss a deer in the road, and drove into the ditch. No one was injured, and there was minimal damage to her car. Drilling was cited for Operating Without Registration.

At about 5pm Thursday, deputies were called to another vehicle in the ditch, at Highway 150 and Nature Road, north of West Union. A car driven by 21 year old Jonathan Wander of Clermont went out of control and into the ditch. No one was injured, and damage was minor. Wander was cited for Failure to Maintain Control.

On Sunday (May 20), shortly after 10am, deputies were called to a 2 vehicle accident on Main Street in Elgin. 19 year old Colton Edwards was driving west, following a vehicle driven by 86 year old Kenneth Anderson, when Anderson braked for an animal in the road. Edwards rear-ended Anderson's vehicle. No one was injured, but there was a total of $2500 in damage to the 2 cars. Edwards was cited for Following Too Close.

And also on Sunday, at about 10:30pm, deputies were called to a one-vehicle accident on Unicorn Road north of Westgate. 31 year old Andrew Thorp of Westage swerved to miss a deer in the road, and put his car in the ditch, also striking a tree. Thorp was taken by private vehicle to Mercy Hospital in Oelwein for treatment. There was $8,000 damage to his vehicle, and Thorp was cite for Failure to Maintain Control.
