Fatal Accident Early Today in Eastern Iowa

Authorities are withholding the name of a motorist who was killed in a single-vehicle accident early this (Tuesday) morning in Linn County.

It happened just before 5:30am at the intersection of Sawyer Road and Duck Pond Road, just east of Central City.

According to the Linn County Sheriff's Office, an eastbound vehicle went out of control on Sawyer Road, went into the ditch, and overturned, coming to rest on a frozen pond.

The driver and only occupant was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the victim is not being released until relatives can be notified.

The Linn County Sheriff is still investigating.
