Fairbank Murder Suspect Not Cooperating in Jail
A rural Fairbank man, accused of shooting his son to death, has been ordered to get medical treatment.
59 year old Daniel Niebuhr, charged with First Degree Murder in the death of his son, 36 year old Brock Niebuhr, had reportedly injured his hand while he was held in the Bremer County Jail in Waverly. Authorities speculate that the injury was self-inflicted.
Niebuhr was allegedly not cooperating with jail personnel to receive medical treatment.
The County Attorney has petitioned the court, so that he could legally be sedated for an examination.
Niebuhr is also described as being belligerent with the jail staff.
Niebuhr's defense attorney is asking the court to bar authorities from any further questioning of his client. He claims Niebuhr is having trouble communicating, and that the state of his mental health is questionable.
The judge did order medical treatment for Niebuhr.
Niebuhr initially told authorities who were called to his rural Fairbank home on March 22nd, that he shot his son Brock, while Brock was sitting on a couch watching television. Brock sustained a gunshot wound to the neck.
A motive for the fatal shooting has not been released.
Daniel Niebuhr is being held on $2 million bond.
