Eastern Iowa Woman Wins Huge Lottery Prize With Baby On The Way

Timing can actually be on your side. An Eastern Iowa woman who is expecting a newborn just won herself a big lottery prize to help out her growing family.

She wants to use this money to give her growing family a little more space. For those who have children, hopefully, they keep a little back to pay for the crazy medical bills many people still face.

Muscatine County Woman Wins Big At The Right Time

A Muscatine County woman whose family is about to grow said her big lottery win came at a great time.

Alexandra Perez-Gonzalez told officials on Tuesday as she claimed her prize at the lottery's Cedar Rapids regional office.

"We have a baby on the way. We have an apartment right now and we want something of our own, a house, maybe."

Perez-Gonzalez, 24, of West Liberty, won the 20th prize in the Iowa Lottery's "Premiere" scratch game. She and her husband, Jonathan, had won a smaller prize on an earlier ticket that won a smaller prize and decided to use those winnings to buy another ticket in the game.

Where Did She Buy This Winning Ticket In Iowa?

Perez-Gonzalez bought her huge winning ticket at Casey's (402 W. 15th St.) in West Liberty.

Perez-Gonzalez told the Iowa Lottery about what happened after winning a smaller prize that gave them the push to buy another. She said,

"That first one, we scratched it and then we got $50. Then he was like, 'Buy another one! Maybe we'll get lucky and win $200, or $100.'"

Perez-Gonzalez quickly uncovered a matching number on the next ticket and it was way more than $100 or even $200.

West Liberty Woman Is Now $30,000 Richer

Perez-Gonzalez recalled,

"I started scratching the prize. I thought it was just $30, and then I saw 30 and two zeroes. Then I was like, 'Wait! Jonathan, hold on! There's another zero here!'"

They took the ticket back into the store and confirmed the win by checking it on the lottery terminal. They found out that they won $30,000 in the Iowa Lottery's 'Premiere' scratch game.
