Eastern Iowa Woman Dead in Pickup Rollover

A young Eastern Iowa woman is dead, following a one-vehicle accident in Benton County.

It happened at about 6pm Thursday on a county road, south of Norway, Iowa.

A pickup driven by 23 year old Mark Himmelsbach of Norway, failed to make a right-hand curve, went into the ditch, then rolled, ejecting his passenger, 20 year old Christine Ballard of Marengo.

Ballard was pronounced dead; Himmelsbach was air-cared to University Hospitals in Iowa City. A condition report was not available.

The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol. They were assisted by the Benton County Sheriff, First Responders from Norway and Blairstown, and the Benton County Medical Examiner.
