Eastern Iowa Town To Get 10-Acre Park Along Riverfront
Coming soon to a Davenport near you.
I've seen a lot of social media chatter about something big and new along the riverfront and now it looks like the City of Davenport is ready to go for it.
The city announced that Main Street Landing, which will be a 10-acre park on the Mississippi Riverfront, will have it's groundbreaking in a few weeks. It will be between Main Street and the roller dams.
The park will have water features, play areas, and an all-season multi-use plaza. So based on pictures they posted, it will look something like this:
The groundbreaking is set for April 3rd. Crews are planning to start work on the park next month too.
Like anything any city does ever, it's getting mixed reactions. Some of the commentary I saw about it from a few weeks ago called for the city to either fix potholes or build a flood wall along the riverfront instead. Some people claimed we don't need any more things along the Davenport riverfront. On the flipside, some people said it looks really cool and they do want somewhere else to take their kids.
The Davenport City Council picked Valley Construction to build the multi-million dollar park, according to a release from the city.
As of now, there's no projected completion date for the new park. Since there's a lot to it between water features and play buildings, it may not be ready in time to keep the kiddos entertained during Red, White, & Boom this year.
