Eastern Iowa City Forgets Where Time Capsule is Buried

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) — The city of Cedar Rapids is missing a piece of its history.

History Center historian Mark Stoffer Hunter says no one seems to remember exactly where city officials buried a 1976 time capsule.

Stoffer Hunter says when the capsule was placed in the ground, officials didn't mark it. All anyone knows it that it's somewhere near the center of Greene Square park. Stoffer Hunter says he's found some references to it being near the park's flag pole, but nothing definitive.

Landscape architect Steve Krug, who's helping with a $2 million park renovation project, has asked workers digging with heavy machinery to be on the lookout for a copper box.
