Being born and raised in this Eastern Iowa city, I know how much this is going to suck for the residents there.

You might know that I'm from Clinton. There, they have two bridges. The north bridge and the south bridge, or the Highway 136 and Highway 30 bridges, respectfully. Both bridges make it super easy to get to Illinois. The north bridge takes you right into Fulton, where you can hang a left to putts up to Thomson or continue straight to go onto Highway 30. The south bridge is Highway 30, which takes you right to Morrison and eventually I-88 in the Sterling/Rock Falls area.

For residents in Clinton and Fulton, when one bridge closes, it's a nightmare. There are people who live on both sides of the river who work on the opposite side. Plus, Clinton has more places to run errands and get some shopping done. Also, Manny's II is in Fulton, and that's not cool to be cut off from.

When the south bridge is closed, all of that semi-truck traffic slows traffic on the north bridge. When the north bridge closes, driving all the way to the south bridge makes you want to drive in the Mississippi.

Unfortunately, the north bridge will be closed for the entire summer. That's right. Clinton and Fulton residents, get ready for a summer of the south bridge.

Officials with the City of Clinton and the Iowa DOT announced via social media that the Iowa DOT will be conducting a bridge deck overlay project on the Highway 136 bridge between Clinton, Iowa, and Fulton, Illinois.

The bridge will be closed to all traffic from May 12, 2025, through September 30, 2025.

During this time, all traffic will be detoured via the Highway 30 bridge. If there’s an incident on Highway 30, traffic may be rerouted to the Savanna/Sabula bridge. Please plan ahead for potential delays and increased traffic.

The Iowa DOT understands this may be inconvenient, and they appreciate your patience as they work to ensure the long-term safety of the bridge.
