DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) — Authorities have released the name of a 66-year-old woman who was sexually assaulted and fatally beaten in downtown Dubuque.

On Thursday police identified the victim as Dubuque resident Nancy Krapfl. She died Tuesday at a hospital after being attacked while on a walk.

A 19-year-old Dubuque man, Helmon Betwell, has been arrested and is charged with murder, sexual assault and burglary. He remains in custody pending $1 million bail. His attorney Theresa Sampson Brown said Friday that the defense team wouldn't comment.

Court documents say Betwell told investigators that he didn't know the woman, Krapfl, and said she was "in the wrong place at the wrong time."
