Two area motorists are being charged with causing recent traffic accidents in Buchanan County.


The first accident happened Tuesday (April 16) at about 6:30pm, on Highway 150 and 185th Street, north of Independence. A northbound car driven by Helen Lukes of Independence, had stopped to wait for a vehicle in front of her, to make a left turn. Another northbound vehicle, driven by Tyler Stotler of Sumner, was unable to stop in time, and rear-ended Lukes' vehicle. No one was injured. Stotler was charged with Failure to Stop in An Assured Clear Distance.

The second accident occurred Wednesday, April 17th at about 4:30pm, on 120th Street, southeast of Fairbank. A pickup driven by Sharon Walther of Hazleton crossed the center line and sideswiped an oncoming pickup driven by Larry Campbell of West Plains, Missouri. No injuries were reported. Walther was cited for Failure to Yield Half of the Roadway.

The Buchanan County Sheriff investigated both accidents.
