Driver Loses Pickup to Fire, Cause Unknown

Buchanan County authorities continue to investigate a fire that destroyed a pickup last week.

Just before 8pm on Sunday, Jan. 22, the Buchanan County Sheriff was alerted by 911 call, of a vehicle that was on fire near the intersection of 220th Street and North Doris Avenue, just east of Independence.

Shane Manson of Manchester told authorities that was driving west on 220th, when he noticed a strong smell of gasoline.

When Manson stopped the pickup and got out to check it over, the fire erupted. Manson was not injured, but his 2008 Chevrolet Colorado was totaled.

The Independence Fire Department and Winthrop Fire Deparment assisted the Buchanan County Sheriff.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
