Denver School official Named Principal of the Year

DENVER, Iowa (AP) — A schools administrators group has named a northeast Iowa woman its elementary principal of the year for 2014.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier says (http://bit.ly/1gwpNoC ) Kim Tierney at Denver Elementary School was cheered and applauded during an assembly at the school on Thursday.

Her district superintendent, Brad Laures, says "there's nobody that's as passionate about education, about kids, as Kim."

The Clive-based School Administrators of Iowa accepts nominations each year for various principal and superintendent honors. Executive Director Dan Smith says six or seven nominations were received for the elementary principal honor. Tierney was one of three finalists and was interviewed by a committee of elementary principals.
