Deadly UTV Accident in Clayton County

A Postville man has been identified as the victim of a fatal accident in Clayton County, involving a Utility Terrain Vehicle.

It happened just after 9:30am Saturday (Sept. 5), at the intersection of Gunder Road and 120th Street, southeast of Postville.

A vehicle driven by 23 year old Jasmyne Jones of Cedar Rapids, attempted to pass a UTV driven by 72 year old Byron Meyer of Postville; both were going north on Gunder Road. The two collided when Meyer began a left turn onto 120th Street.

Meyer, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the UTV. He was killed in the accident. His passenger, 68 year old Eileen Meyer, also of Postville, was belted-in; she was taken to the Decorah hospital for treatment.  Jones was not hurt.

The accident was covered by the Iowa State Patrol, with assistance from the Clayton County Sheriff, Postville Police, Iowa DNR, and Postville Fire/EMS.

The accident remains under investigation.
