A Northern Iowa man has died after crashing his bicycle into an animal.


The accident happened Friday (June 30); at about 1:30pm, the Johnson County Joint Emergency Communications Center got a report of a bicycle accident in the 2300 block of Sugar Bottom Road, southwest of Solon, in rural Johnson County.

70 year old Franklin Dahn of Lake Mills, was riding his bicycle down a hill, when he collided with an animal in the road. It was not known what kind of animal he struck.

Dahn was flown to University Hospitals in Iowa City, where he later died from his injuries.

According to the Johnson County Sheriff, Dahn was wearing his bicycle helmet at the time of the accident.

The sheriff was assisted at the scene by the Solon Fire Department, Johnson County Ambulance, and AirCare.
