The Iowa Department of Public Health announced 293 new cases of the coronavirus Wednesday morning, along with 12 additional deaths.

State officials said the deaths included two northeast Iowa adults, who were both over the age of 81. One death occurred in Black Hawk County and the other was in Clayton County. Linn County and Jasper County each reported two deaths. Marshall County, Muscatine County and Woodbury County each reported one death.

Eight of the adults who died were over the age of 81, Iowa health officials said. The other victims were all between the ages of 61 and 80.

To date, COVID-19 has claimed 219 lives in Iowa.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Iowa rose to 10,404 Wednesday, with the nearly 300 new cases reported. State health officials say 414 people are currently hospitalized in Iowa with symptoms of the coronavirus.

Statewide, 3,803 people who have tested positive for COVID-19 have recovered. A total of 63,171 people have been tested.

Gov. Kim Reynolds did not hold a daily press briefing Wednesday morning. She was scheduled to fly to Washington, D.C. for a meeting with President Donald Trump and leaders of his administration. Reynolds planned to update the President on Iowa's response to the COVID-19 pandemic during her visit to the White House.
