Couple Arrested in Weekend Traffic Stop Near Westgate

A traffic stop in rural Fayette County has resulted in the arrest of 2 area people.

At about 12:30am Sunday (May 5th), the Fayette County sheriff pulled over an SUV for a traffic violation, about 4 miles west of Westgate, near the intersection of County Road C-33 and "Y" Avenue.

The driver, 50 year old Jeffrey Happel of Frederika was found to be intoxicated; he was arrested on charges of Operating While Intoxicated-2nd Offense, and Aiding and Abetting a violation of an Order of Protection.

The passenger, 39 year old Melissa Garbes of Van Horne, was arrested for Violation of a Domestic Abuse No Contact Order.

Both were held until their appearance before a judge.
