Counselors will be available at a Northeast Iowa school that was attended by a young boy, who died from an apparent accidental gunshot.
The incident happened just before 3pm Friday (June 17) in Elgin. The Fayette County Sheriff received a call that a four year old boy had accidentally shot himself in the head.

The boy, Jayden Choate of Fort Atkinson, was taken to Palmer Lutheran Hospital in West Union, where he was later pronounced dead.

An investigation revealed that Jayden did not live at 210 Main Street, where the shooting happened; he was visiting with his mother, a 2 year old brother, 5 month old sister, and a family friend. Jayden was inside the home with his 2 siblings when the incident happened.

A preliminary investigation indicates that the shooting was accidental, however authorities will continue to look into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Jayden had been attending pre-school at Turkey Valley School District, where counselors will be on hand to assist students and others who may have known the boy.
