
Cited for Cell Phone Use Resulting in Crash
An eastern Iowa woman is being charged with using her cell phone or other device, and not paying attention to the road, when she slammed into the back of a semi in rural Linn County.
It happened at about 10am Wednesday (May 29) on Highway 30, southeast of Atkins. A semi tractor and trailer driven by 68 year old Gary Peck of North Liberty, had slowed to make a turn, when he was rear-ended by car driven by 27 year old Bethany Smith of Cedar Rapids.
Smith was taken to Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Smith is being charged with using an Electronic Communication Device While Driving, Following Too Close, No Valid Drivers License, and No Insurance.
