An area man has now been arrested in connection with a deadly traffic accident that happened four months ago in Oelwein.
Following the completion of the investigation, 24 year old Michael Burkey of Hawkeye has been charged with Homicide by Vehicle-Reckless Driving, which is a Class "C" felony.

On June 5th of this year, Burkey was the driver of a car that collided with another car in the 800-900 block of North Frederick in Oelwein. The accident sent the other driver, 82 year old Ann Sanderson, to University Hospitals in Iowa City. She died about 3 weeks later, on June 28th.

The four-month investigation determined that Burkey was driving at an excessive rate of speed when the accident happened. Burkey is being held on bond, in the Fayette County jail in West Union.

The Oelwein Police Department was assisted in the investigation by the Fayette County Sheriff's Office and Iowa State Patrol.
