Charges Now Filed in December Jesup Accident
Charges have now been filed in a December accident near Jesup that injured two people.
The accident happened at about 7:30pm on December 2nd, at the intersection of Dugan Avenue and 220th Street, which is just east of Jesup.
A car driven by 39 year old Todd McCloud of Oelwein did not stop and went through the "T" intersection, into a ditch. It then catapulted into a field, rolling several times.
McCloud and a juvenile passenger were taken to the Independence hospital; the juvenile was later transferred to a Cedar Rapids hospital with serious injuries.
Following the month-long investigation, McCloud is now being charged with Abandonment of a Dependent child, second offense Operating While Intoxicated, and Driving While License Suspended. McCloud was also cited for Failure to Maintain Control, Defective Braking Equipment, Failure to Obey a Stop Sign, Speed Violation, Failure to Display Plates, Failure to Carry Registration and Failure to Carry Proof of Insurance.
McCloud was arrested (Jan. 11) by the Buchanan County Sheriff in the 30 block of 5th Avenue NE in Oelwein, with the assistance of the Iowa State Patrol.
