Making it at the highest level of competitive racing is the fulfillment of a dream. Just ask Cedar Rapids native Joey Gase. But never did he think that his time behind the wheel would lead to this. Being the owner of his own NASCAR team.

The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that Gase announced on Thursday that he will have a new ride with a new NASCAR Xfinity Racing Team...Joey Gase Racing. Certainly has a nice ring to it, especially if your name is Joey Gase! In a news release, Gase stated that he is "excited to start a new chapter in my career and life." He also noted that becoming an owner is something that he'd been thinking a lot about over the past several years. Gase said that he asked several other team owners about it and expected to get some pushback. But Gase said, "to my surprise, I got the opposite".

Gase made his first Xfinity Series start when he was just 18 years old at the Iowa Speedway in Newton, according to the Gazette. He finished that race in 20th. He ran full-time in the series from 2014 to 2019 and then part-time in 2020 and 2021 when he moved up to the NASCAR Cup Series.

Gase's team will have five cars after buying the cars and equipment of H2 Motorsports from Shane Lee, according to the Gazette. Joey Gase Racing will run full time, with Gase driving the number 35 car for most of the season. Gase plans to drive part-time in the NASCAR Cup Series.
