Cedar Rapids Man Killed After Monday Morning Police Pursuit
An early-morning crash on Cedar Rapids' south side has left one person dead.
According to a media release from the City of Cedar Rapids, officers with the Cedar Rapids Police Department attempted to stop a black Chevy Tahoe for traffic violations just after 2 a.m. this morning.
The driver allegedly fled on 33rd Avenue S.W. and then onto I-380 southbound. Officers continued the pursuit to Highway 30 where authorities say he took the westbound ramp, losing control. The vehicle then rolled.
38-year-old Jamie Hill of Cedar Rapids was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash. Highway 30 and the I-380 southbound exit ramp were both closed following the accident for emergency personnel, as well as accident investigation.
The Iowa Department of Transportation reported just before 6 a.m. this morning that westbound Highway 30 had been reopened.
The Iowa State Patrol and investigators with the Cedar Rapids Police Department continue to investigate the incident.
In another accident over the weekend, 22-year-old Riley Reynolds of Iowa City was killed early Saturday morning, on Highway 1, north of Iowa City. He reportedly crashed into a semi that was apparently attempting to make a U-turn. More on that story can be found here.
