The Black Hawk County Dispatch Center received numerous calls of a serious two vehicle car accident at 5:05 PM Friday evening near the intersection of Viking Road and Winterberry Drive in Cedar Falls.

Witness accounts and physical evidence indicate that an SUV traveling eastbound on Viking Road was struck by a westbound sedan. The sedan was traveling at a high rate of speed, lost control and crossed the center line striking the SUV head-on. Both vehicles sustained major damage. Occupants from the sedan were ejected from the vehicle and received fatal injuries.

Three persons sustained non-life threatening injuries. Three persons received fatal injuries as a result of the crash. All occupants of the vehicles were transported to Sartori and Covenant Hospitals in several of their ambulances.

Cedar Falls Police and Fire Departments were assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Department and the University of Northern Iowa Police Department. Names of the injured or deceased will not be released until family is notified.

The Iowa State Patrol is conducting the crash investigation and reconstruction. The investigation continues.
