Cedar Falls Business Set To Close

A longtime Cedar Valley furniture store will soon be closing. Art Van Furniture--which began as Simpson furniture more than 70 years ago--will cease operations with the looming retirement of president Dale Emmert.

Emmert told The Courier that he expects the store to close within the next 90 days. The Art Van in Coralville will remain open, and Emmert said some of his employees may find work there.

The store opened as independently-owned Simpson Furniture on Main Street in downtown Cedar Falls in 1946 before relocating to its current building in 2011. The Art Van franchise took over in early 2016.
