Casey’s Kitchen Worker Scares Off Burglar
Authorities have arrested a young Winthrop man, for allegedly breaking into a convenience store in Independence on New Year's Day.
An investigation by the Independence Police Department, indicated that on Friday, January 1st, a person used a pair of tree trimmers to break into the front door of Casey's West General Store, and enter the building.
The suspect, 18 year old Horatio Richmond of Winthrop, was unaware that the business' morning employee was working in the kitchen. Richmond fled when the worker yelled at him.
On Sunday (Jan. 10), officers found out that Richmond was at the Comet Center in Aurora. Responding officers found Richmond in an upstairs room. He was arrested without any further incident.
Richmond is being held in the Buchanan County jail on $2,500 bond, for a charge of Burglary in the 2nd Degree.
The Independence Police were assisted by the Buchanan County Sheriff, and members of the public who came forward with information on the incident.
