Car Theft Investigation, Plus Local Arrests

The Oelwein Police Department is investigating a car theft that happened last month.

Authorities received a report at about 1pm May 20th of the theft of a car from the 100 block of South Frederick. The car is a 2002 Ford Taurus. The vehicle was found later that same day, in the ten block of South Frederick.

An Oelwein man, 21 year old Christian Varela, was charged early this (Monday) morning with an open container violation. The charge was made in the ten block of 1st Avenue NW shortly after midnight, after a citizen's report of suspicious activity.

Thursday at about 1:30pm, Oelwein police checked the area of the 400 block of North Frederick for a reported suspicious person. Following an investigation, 20 year old Dalton Veber of Oelwein was arrested on a Fayette County warrant for theft in the fifth degree.

And and Oelwein man, 23 year old Tyler Thompson, was taken into custody in the 100 block of South Frederick on a Fayette County warrant for prohibited acts.
