The Cedar Falls Police arrested a man after a recent string of burglaries in Cedar Falls.

On Sunday,  January 15th, 2017 Cedar Falls Police Officers were dispatched to the area of Wedgewood Drive after residents in the area had discovered a male prowler that was attempting to enter cars and houses. Several residents in the area began chasing the subject and updating his location to responding officers. Officers arrived on scene and located 33 year-old Edgar C. Gafford hiding in the bed a pick-up truck. At the time of the contact, officers determined that Gafford had an outstanding arrest warrant for violating terms of his probation. He was arrested on the warrant. Officers suspected that Gafford was responsible for a rash of vehicle and residential burglaries that had occurred in the preceeding days.

After an extensive investigation, Cedar Falls Police have determined that Gafford was responsible for at least twenty-three burglaries or attempted burglaries. The burglaries were to residences, attached garages and vehicles. Gafford is being charged with three counts of Burglary - 2nd Degree (Class "C" Felony) for entering houses and attached garages, 21 counts of Burglary - 3rd Degree (Vehicle related burglaries were Enhanced to Class "D" Felony due to prior convictions) for entering vehicles, one count of Attempted Burglary - 3rd Degree (Aggravated Misdemeanor) and one count of Possession of Burglary Tools (Aggravated Misdemeanor). Gafford has been held at the Black Hawk County Jail since his arrest on January 15th.

A Class "C" Felony is punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment and a $10,000 fine, a Class "D" Felony is punsihable by 5 years and $7,500 fine and an Aggravated Misdemeanor is punishable by 2 years and a $6,250 fine.
