The Julien Dubuque bridge is now back open, but the accident that prompted the closure, was a fatality.

The bridge was closed by the Iowa DOT around 3am today (Friday, April 27) when an accident blocked traffic on the structure. Traffic was re-routed over the Dubuque-Wisconsin bridge.

The accident was on the Illinois side of the bridge, so Illinois authorities are investigating. According to sources, an ambulance rear-ended an amonia tanker; one person is reportedly dead. No other information was released.

The bridge was reopened just before 7:30am after the crash scene was cleared.
