Black Hawks Drop Two Over The Weekend

Over the past couple of weeks, Waterloo has watched its one time huge 13 point lead in the USHL's Western Conference, be narrowed down to just a 1 point with Omaha's victory over Lincoln on Sunday afternoon. The Black Hawks record sits at 29-13-2 with 60 points with Omaha breathing down their necks in 2nd place with 59 points.

SATURDAY NIGHT VS CHICAGO
The Chicago Steel pulled away to a 5-2 win at Young Arena against Waterloo Saturday night in a match-up of USHL conference leaders. Gunnarwolfe Fontaine led the way for the top team in the Eastern Conference, scoring twice and adding an assist, as the Steel prevailed despite being outshot 39-26. The Western Conference-leading Black Hawks went ahead first, with a goal from Ondrej Psenicka. Xander Lamppa also added a goal for the home team.

FRIDAY NIGHT VS YOUNGSTOWN
The Youngstown Phantoms conjured up an answer to the Black Hawks’ third period rally and escaped from Young Arena with a 5-3 victory on Friday. Trevor Kuntar scored two un-assisted goals in the 3rd period to help the visitors hold off the Hawks. Griffin Ness scored the only goal in the 2nd, thanks to a Wyatt Schingoethe takeaway. Schingoethe surprised a Youngstown defender, then slid a pass across the slot to Ness, who scored into an open side. In the 3rd period, Waterloo's Luke Bast fired in a one-timer from the high slot, set up by Aaron Bohlinger, beating Youngstown netminder Dominic Basse low to the glove side. Nic Belpedio added a goal in the 3rd, but it wouldn't be enough as the Hawks lost for the 4th time in the last 5 outings.

ON THE ROAD THIS WEEKEND
The Hawks travel east of the Mississippi River for the final time in 2019/20 next weekend for games against USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program and the Youngstown Phantoms on Friday and Saturday respectively. Waterloo won't be back at home in Young Arena until March 13th & 14th when they take on Sioux Falls both nights.
