Waterloo got back on the winning track with a two win weekend sweep of Sioux City on Friday and Saturday night defending home ice at Young Arena.

SATURDAY NIGHT
The Black Hawks closed out a weekend series against the Musketeers with a 4-1 Saturday night win in Party Town. The contest was also the sixth and final game between the teams during the 2020/21 regular season schedule; Waterloo claimed four out of the six. And that's probably a good thing, because the teams appear to be growing tired of each other, as evidenced by the three fights on Saturday night.

According the team's game re-cap; Sioux City recorded their only goal of the first period. However, in the 2nd period, the game-tying goal came when Max Sasson shoveled the puck toward the top of the crease, and Kyler Kleven redirected it in with one hand on his stick. Then Sasson scored the go-ahead goal just before the intermission. He pulled a rebound away from the side of the Sioux City net, taking a step back, before lifting a sharp-angled chance under the crossbar.

The 2-1 score held until the late minutes of the 3rd period, when Kleven had a clear path to the net through the right circle, Kleven wired his shot past the Musketeer goalie for his second goal of the night. Ryan O’Hara was tripped up with an empty net in front of him late in the game. The resulting power play allowed Sasson to add to his excellent night, as he put the puck into an open goal from the red line with 32.3 seconds to go.

FRIDAY NIGHT
Even though Saturday night's 4-1 victory looks decisive, as mentioned, the teams were separated by one goal for most of the game. The results have been close every time the Black Hawks have met the Musketeers this season, and Friday’s game was another close one, as Waterloo edged Sioux City by a score of 2-1.

Sioux City scored just seconds before the first intermission, as Bennett Schimek set up Joel Maatta for a scoring shot from just inside the left dot. In the second, the Black Hawks tied the game as Alex Gaffney provided the equalizer with a low shot that beat the Musketeer goalie. Just over six minutes later, Waterloo took the lead as Kyler Kleven slipped the puck into the net.
Charlie Glockner stopped 10 Sioux City shots in the 3rd period and 32 for the game to secure the win.
