Avenue of the Saints Fatality

A Northeast Iowa woman has died in a multi-vehicle accident on the Avenue of the Saints during a snowstorm.

The crash happened at about 11:30am Wednesday on Highway 18, four miles east of Mason City.

27 year old Amy Hild of Rockford was driving east, when she slowed for a previous accident, where troopers had closed the right lane.

Hild's car was rear-ended by a semi; the car spun around and was struck a second time by the same truck.

Hild was pronounced dead at the scene. A total of six vehicles were involved in the accident. 3 other people were injured. The semi, driven by a Utah man, slid off the road and collided with an overpass.

The accident remains under investigation; authorities note that weather was probably a factor. The area received almost 6 inches of snow Wednesday.
