Area Woman Charged with Making a False Report

A Northeast Iowa woman is being charged with falsely reporting a crime.

On August 4, the Fayette County Sheriff concluded the investigation into the incident.

29 year old Crystal Wirkler of Sumner had told authorities that her 4 year old son was dropped off during a custody exchange by his father in Hawkeye, before she arrived to pick him up, leaving the child unattended.

However, an investigation determined that Wirkler had made up the story to get the father into trouble.

Wirkler was arrested and charged with making False Reports to Public Safety Entities.
