
Area Sisters Die in Kentucky Traffic Accident
Two Northeast Iowa sisters have died in a multi-vehicle accident in Kentucky.
The incident happened at about 10am Monday (Feb. 5) on Interstate 24 in Christian County.
According to the Kentucky State Police, a pickup driven by 55 year old Mary Engrav of Waukon was struck by a semi that was unable to stop for traffic that had been stopped on the highway for a previous accident.
Engrav was pronounced dead at the scene. Her sister, 58 year old Joan Lyons, also of Waukon, was taken to a local hospital where she died from her injuries.
Another sister, 61 year old Barbara Winters-Kelly of Waterville, was treated at an area hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
The fiery chain-reaction crash involved a total of 9 vehicles. Five others were injured in the accident.
