Area Semi Driver Dies in Rollover Accident

A truck driver from Waukon has died in a one-vehicle accident.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, it happened just before 1:30pm Thursday (Oct. 1), south of Waukon on Forest Mills Road.

A semi driven by 59 year old Richard Howe of Waukon, was southbound, when it apparently jackknifed. The semi went into the ditch, rolled over, struck some trees, and landed on it's top. The semi than caught on fire.

Howe was taken to the Waukon hospital, but died from his injuries.

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by the Allamakee County Sheriff, Waukon Fire and EMS, the Iowa D.O.T., and the Iowa DNR. The accident is still under investigation.
