Area School Starts Classes Late Due to Social Media Threat

Students in one Northeast Iowa district went to school 2 hours later than usual today, due to a possible threat.

Dubuque Schools issued the delay after numerous students reported receiving a threat on social media Sunday night (Jan. 13).

The threats were directed toward students in Jefferson Middle School. As a result, school officials made the decision to delay all classes two hours this morning, to let police continue their investigation. Morning pre-school was also cancelled.

Because Holy Family Catholic Schools share the same bus routes, that school also issued a two hour delay.

The Dubuque Police Department is conducting the investigation into the social media threat.
