LA CROSSE, Wis. (AP) — A southwest Wisconsin pet owner who left his dog in his truck in hot weather has been cited by La Crosse police for cruelty to animals.

Thomas Frey of Wauzeka left a window partly rolled down and a cup of water in the truck, but the dog was panting heavily in the pickup where the temperature had reached 112 degrees.

The Coulee Region Humane Society says leaving animals in vehicles even for a few minutes in the hot weather can be dangerous and cause the pet to overheat.
