An Eastern Iowa man has been seriously injured in a bicycle accident.


It happened at about 2pm Saturday (July 15) on the south side of Ely, in Linn County.
Emergency workers were called out on the report of a bicycle rider who fell off his bike and was injured. Responders found 46 year old Toby Freese of Cedar Rapids, unresponsive.

According to witnesses, Freese was riding on State Street in Ely, when he lost control of his bicycle, and fell off. No other vehicles were involved.

Freese was taken by Lifeguard Air Ambulance to University Hospitals in Iowa City, with apparent life-threatening injuries.

According to the Linn County Sheriff's Office, Freese was not wearing a bike helmet at the time.

The accident remains under investigation.
