Area Man Puts His Motorcycle in the Ditch on Christmas Day
The warm weather on Christmas Day, prompted one area man to get out his motorcycle, but he put it in a ditch in rural Fayette County.
The accident happened at about 2:30pm near the intersection of "D" Avenue and Kornhill Road, south of Wadena. 56 year old Barry Timmerman of Strawberry Point was traveling north toward Wadena, when he lost control of his bike, and drove into the ditch. Timmerman had minor injuries, but his 2017 Harley Davidson was totaled. Timmerman was charged with Driving While Revoked, and Operating While Intoxicated-2nd Offense.
On Christmas Eve, the Fayette County Sheriff received a report of a vehicle/deer accident near Oran. A pickup driven by 39 year old Gerald Clay of Maynard was northbound on W-13, just south of Highway 3, when he hit a deer in the road. No one was injured, but his 2004 Chevy Silverado had $1,500 in damages.
Shortly after 10pm Monday, the sheriff got a report of a vehicle in the ditch on 10th street, about a mile west of Stanley. 38 year old Esteban Carrasco of Oelwein lost control of his truck, went into the ditch, and knocking down a utility pole with it's support wires. Esteban and his passenger had minor injuries. Carrasco was cited for Failure to Maintain Control. His 2004 Chevy Tahoe had $1,500 in damage.
And on Friday at about noon, the sheriff investigated an accident at the intersection of Highway 18 and Garden Road. A semi driven by 64 year old Dale Jones of Waukon rear-ended a pickup driven by 82 year old Donald Alcorn of Clermont, that had stopped to make a left turn. Jones was charged with Following Too Closely. No one was injured, but there was $2,000 damage to Alcorn's pickup.
