Area Man Jailed After Crashing Stolen Vehicle into Ditch

A Northeast Iowa man has been arrested after crashing a vehicle that was reported as stolen.

The incident began at about 8:30am Tuesday (Jan. 2), when the Fayette County Sheriff received a call reporting a stolen vehicle.

The vehicle in question, a 2002 Ford Explorer, was found in a ditch on "F" Avenue, just outside of Clermont.

An investigation determined that 61 year old Doney Howard Jr. of Elgin, was the driver of the vehicle, which went out of control, entered a ditch, and rolled onto it's side.

Howard was taken into custody for Driving While Barred and Failure to Maintain Control.

No one was injured in the accident, and there was $4,000 damage to the Explorer.

The Fayette County Sheriff continues to investigate.
