The Fayette County Sheriff's Office is investigating a one-vehicle accident near Oelwein, that put a Hawkeye man in the hospital.


The sheriff was notified of the accident at about 8:15am Friday (April 5). It happened 2 miles north of Oelwein on Highway 3.

Officers determined that the driver, 50 year old Brett Stahr of Hawkeye, was driving east, when he lost control of his car. The vehicle left the road, went airborne, and landed in a culvert.

Stahr had to be extricated from the car with the jaws of life; he was taken to Mercy One Medical Center in Oelwein for treatment.

The investigation into the accident continues.
