A Decorah man, initially arrested for running from officers after a disturbance, faces even more charges for allegedly assaulting an officer at the Winneshiek County jail.

The case began Sunday evening (May 19), when Decorah Police were called to a home on Center Street to investigate a loud argument.

21 year old Donavon Nelson was spotted by police, apparently trying to flee the scene; he was eventually stopped and arrested for Interference.

While Nelson was in jail, he attacked a correctional officer. Police used pepper spray on Nelson, and as he was being handcuffed, he grabbed at an officer's groin, and tryed to knee him. He was brought under control, and charged with Assault on a Correctional Officer.

No one was injured in the incident.
