An Eastern Iowa Café is the ‘Most Adorable Small-Town Joint’ in Iowa
If you're looking for a cute spot to take a road trip this summer, here you go!
This week, MSN published an article outlining the "most adorable small-town joint" in all 50 states, and the pick for Iowa is only about 1 hour and 24 minutes from downtown Cedar Rapids.
The Crane & Pelican Café in Le Claire is a very unique little place with beautiful views of the Mississippi River. Their Facebook page reads:
"Open since 2009, the Crane & Pelican serves classy comfort food in a neat historic mansion overlooking the Mississippi River. The Dawley House was built in 1851 and is listed on the National Historic Registry. We pride ourselves on making our food from scratch and taking care of every detail of your dining experience."
The Dawley House was once owned by Daniel and Sabina Dawley, who raised nine children in the home. According to the cafe's website, "Daniel had an extensive 30 year career working on & owning river boats on the Mississippi, and he became Post Master of LeCaire in his retirement. Sabina was a prominent universalist in the community and hosted events to make bandages for the union soldiers in the civil war here."
Not only does the Crane & Pelican offer beautiful views and a historic interior, but they also have a great-looking menu. The spring menu includes items like Dill Pickle Soup, Pecan Crusted Salmon, Lobster Mac & Cheese, Orange Crepes, Homemade Ice Cream, and more. You can check it out HERE.
The family owned and operated venue hosts live music, private parties, weddings, and other events, both inside and outside in the garden. They are open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. You can check out photos and more information about the restaurant on Facebook HERE.
